SPIRIT - Jobs for Camp Counselors
During the SPIRIT program for high school students (July 26-30, 2010), there are opportunities for college
students to work as camp counselors. If you are interested in being considered as a camp counselor
for the student program, you should contact Prof. Alka Harriger via email and indicate your interest.

Description
This year's one-week, residential program for high school students starts on Monday, July 26, 2010, with
registration on Sunday (7/25) late afternoon/evening. If selected as a camp counselor, your duties will begin
on Sunday, July 25, 2010, at 9 am. After completing a two hour training program, you will have lunch. Following
lunch, you will assist in some Alice instructional sessions. Following that, you will prepare to assist in the
registration process to greet your assigned students for the week. The rest of the week, you will supervise
your assigned group of students and assist session instructors in a variety of interactive, IT-focused and
recreational activities.

Expectations
College students who apply to SPIRIT as camp counselors should meet the following requirements, if selected:
- Be available to SPIRIT staff and assigned students 24/7 from Sunday, July 25, 2010, 9 am
to Friday, July 30, 2010, 5 pm.
- Accompany assigned students to all activities, meals, and accommodations.
- Be knowledgeable of the 3D storyboarding tool, Alice (part of the Sunday training session
will provide an opportunity for review of Alice). You are encouraged to download the free
Alice program from the Alice website.
- Ensure that assigned students participate in activities, including completion of surveys
that support SPIRIT research.
- Agree to allow SPIRIT to use your likeness in promotional materials.
- Have fun and encourage assignees to have fun, too!
Preferences
All applicants will be expected to be college students in good standing. You will be asked to provide
two references who can address questions about your academic credentials and personal/professional ethics.
Additionally, we will consider the following preferences (in order):
- Current Purdue CIT/CS student
- Current Purdue student in a technical discipline
- Current college student at a university in the state of Indiana majoring in a computing discipline
- Current college student at a university in the state of Indiana majoring in a computing discipline
- Current college student at a university in the state of Indiana majoring in a technical discipline
- Current Purdue student
- Current college student at a US university majoring in a technical discipline
- Past SPIRIT participant with proof of acceptance in a technical discipline at a US university
