Description

This year's one-week, residential, professional development program for high school guidance counselors starts on Monday, July 14, 2008. During this week, you will learn about how Information Technology is used to support a variety of disciplines through hands-on activities, career presentations, and instruction on using a software tool, Alice, that has been used in high schools and colleges to enhance instruction in a variety of disciplines. You will have the opportunity to use Alice to develop career-planning storyboards. You'll have the opportunity to work with other counselors and SPIRIT staff to develop a slide-show that describes the interesting and varied career options that are available to students who pursue study in a computing program. During the school year you will use the material you develop to provide career advice to students at your school. Finally, in the spring semester, you will return to campus to share your experience with SPIRIT staff and other counselors.
